DIY Easy Curtain Rod Makeover

While being down in bed with the flu for 7 long days, and looking at the same 4 walls, I thought it was time for a bedroom redo! I knew that new furniture was out of the question so I thought about how I could make my room brighter and cheerier. I liked the room of deep reds and gold’s I had for 4 years but I wanted something fresher now. It all started with a trip through Pier1 Imports where I found an awesome green jar with the cutest bird on top…and it was on clearance for $9!!! That was it – my jumping off point for my bedroom redo! {See the top of this cute jar on my Spring Vignette}

After looking all around to find some great bargains and using up Christmas gift cards I was well on my way to making this room a cheerier place. {You can see some of the beginnings of it here}

After changing the colors to greens and blues I realized I no longer need the gold curtain rods.

I like the finials on them but gold would no longer cut it! So off to Home Depot I went to find a great color to match my off white furniture.

The first step I did was to spray the rods completely with Rust-Oleum American Accents Stone Spray  then left them to dry. Rust-Oleum says this product creates the natural look and feel of stone!

After spraying the rods with one coat they looked like this. {Don’t panic, I knew I wanted two effects on these rods. FYI I also sprayed some wood corbels for my bathroom, which covered completely with one coat. Those in a later post}

The Adored HomeSecond, I went back over the rods completely with Rust-Oleum Painters Touch in Satin Ivory Silk and allowed them to dry once again. Rust-Oleum says this product provides a smooth, durable finish that lasts longer than ordinary paints!

{These were my buys of the day for all my future painting projects, so stayed tuned to see what else I create!}

The last step was to apply one last coat of Rust-Oleum Stone Spray that I did in step 1, in order for me to achieve this stone textured effect I was looking for!

Aren’t they great! I am so pleased!

Here is how they look up on the wall in a close up pic {flash made it look white however, they really are an ivory stone effect}

What do you think? It was fast, easy, and I love the results! I cannot wait to get painting my other projects and show them to you!

Until next time,

Enjoy your day, your family, and your home! ❤

    I decided to do this as well & I’m so glad I found someone else who has successfully done this. I started to get worried my curtains (rod pocket) would get stuck on the stone texture. My idea was to spray paint them in a khaki color forst, and then the stone. Now I’m wondering if I should reverse it? I don’t move my curtains much at all, but I like to have the option. Have you experienced any issues with snagging or with the stone texture chipping off from moving your curtains? TIA!
